Avon, CO – The Town of Avon is thrilled to announce the annual return of its highly successful Pumpkin Composting Program! Building on the success of previous years (1,800 pounds diverted in 2022, 4200 pounds in 2023 and 3466 pounds in 2024), the program runs from Thursday, October 30 to Thursday, December 4, 2025.
Drop off your pumpkins for free composting at 375 Yoder Ave (east of Home Depot in Avon), Avon’s newly renovated Recycling Center. The designated pumpkin dumpster will be clearly marked, and there will a sign to help guide you to the dumpster. The dumpster is accessible daily from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Important Reminders:
- Pumpkins Only: As a reminder, the program accepts pumpkins only. Please remove any candles, artificial lights, wax, glitter, paint, or other non-compostable decorations before drop-off.
- Environmental Benefits: Composting pumpkins reduces greenhouse gas emissions and reduces food waste. Methane, a potent greenhouse gas that is 25 times stronger than carbon dioxide, is produced by organic waste like pumpkins in landfills. Composting helps mitigate this issue.
“This program exemplifies Avon’s commitment to sustainability,” says Avon Mayor Tamra Underwood. “We want to make sustainability possible for everyone, and through this program, you can help by doing something simple like composting Halloween pumpkins instead of throwing them out.”
